Abuja:Former Governor of Zamfara, Sen. Ahmad Yarima, has expressed his support for Sen. Abdulaziz Yari to head President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign, citing his extensive political experience and networks.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Yarima, who served as governor from 1999 to 2007, issued a statement through his Special Assistant, Saifullahi Abubakar, emphasizing Yari’s suitability for the role of Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council. He described Yari’s appointment as ‘putting round pegs in round holes.’
Yarima highlighted Yari’s pragmatic leadership and appeal to critical stakeholders across Nigeria, recalling his instrumental role in Yarima’s own re-election campaign in 2003. He praised Yari as a ‘shrewd and dynamic politician,’ prepared to dedicate his resources to achieve campaign goals.
Since 1999, Yari has accumulated significant political credentials as a party leader, lawmaker, and governor, establishing extensive contacts nationwide. Yarima noted Yari’s successful tenure as a governor and his leadership of the Nigerian Governors Forum, which earned him the confidence of his peers.
Yarima described Yari as a ‘detribalised and progressive Nigerian’ who consistently worked to bridge ethnic and regional divides. He expressed confidence in Yari’s ability to organize a successful campaign for President Tinubu’s re-election, pledging his support to mobilize wide-ranging backing for the 2027 election.
Yarima concluded by emphasizing Yari’s meticulousness, energy, and team spirit, which he believes will be crucial in leading the campaign towards victory.
