Nairobi: The Nigerian Senior Women’s Volleyball Team on Wednesday defeated Ghana’s Women Volleyball Team 3-2 in the ongoing 2026 African Senior Nations Volleyball Championship in Kenya. The Nigerian team emerged victorious after a hard-fought five-set match, securing their win by taking three sets against Ghana’s two.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the dramatic encounter concluded with set scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-11, 11-25, and 18-16. Nigeria started strong with a 25-21 win in the opening set, but Ghana quickly leveled the contest by taking the second set with the same scoreline.
Nigeria regained momentum in the third set, overpowering Ghana 25-11, positioning themselves just one set away from victory. However, Ghana fought back fiercely, winning the fourth set 25-11 and pushing the match into a decisive fifth set.
In a tense final set, Nigeria held their nerve and edged past Ghana with an 18-16 win, clinching a crucial 3-2 victory. This win places Nigeria in second position in Group C as they gear up to face Cameroon in their final group match on Thursday.
The 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship serves as a qualification pathway for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games and the 2027 FIVB Women’s World Championship.
