Benin: The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo has announced its preparedness for the 2027 general elections, with the Oredo chapter resolving internal differences ahead of the polls. Mr. Lawrence Okha, the State APC Secretary, shared this development after a closed-door meeting with ward leaders from Oredo Local Government Area, alongside elected and appointed party officials.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the meeting was convened to address issues across the wards, resolve differences, and ensure a united front for the upcoming election. Okha emphasized the importance of unity, stating, “All the wards in Oredo are here, and with this meeting, we will have an overview of all the issues across the wards so that we can go into the election in unison.” He acknowledged previous disagreements but confirmed that they had been resolved amicably, declaring Oredo fully prepared for the election.
The party’s confidence is bolstered by the performance of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration. Okha claimed that the APC had become “a household name” in Oredo and across the state, asserting that “the election is going to be one way in Edo.” He also announced the imminent commencement of the party’s campaign, with Sen. Matthew Urhoghide as Director-General and Okpebholo as Chairman of the Campaign Council. The party aims to approach the election with a common goal of defeating its opponents and maintaining its position in the state.
Mr. Paddy Iyamu, the APC candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, echoed this sentiment, citing the state government’s achievements as a source of confidence. Iyamu highlighted road projects, the Ramat Bridge, school rehabilitation, loans for market women and business owners, CNG buses, and students’ bursaries as notable accomplishments. “So, the people are not blind and the only thing they could do is reciprocate by rewarding the governor and the APC with votes,” he stated.
Iyamu emphasized that the APC would campaign on its record in government rather than making promises, stressing that the party had delivered projects and programs that could be presented to voters. “In Edo, APC has done well. We are not talking about what we are going to do but what we have done for the people. The election is for the APC,” he concluded.
