Post: Appointments in 2027 to Be Based on National Needs and Competence Under NDC Government, Says Kwankwaso

Abuja: The National Democratic Party (NDC) Vice-Presidential Candidate, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, has announced that political appointments under the party’s government will prioritize competence and the nation’s needs. He emphasized that if the NDC succeeds in the 2027 presidential election, appointments will not be made based on political connections or affiliations but will focus on the capability and requirements of the country.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Kwankwaso expressed his views during the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Personality Interview Series in Abuja. He highlighted the necessity for the country to be managed by competent individuals, including technocrats, professionals, and experienced politicians, in various ministries, departments, and agencies.

Kwankwaso stated that power distribution would align with the country’s needs, and individuals possessing the necessary knowledge and qualifications would be appointed. He pointed out that the president and vice-president cannot govern alone, underscoring the importance of having capable individuals to support the administration.

He stressed the need for specialized ministries to be led by professionals with relevant expertise and experience. As a civil engineer and former civil servant, Kwankwaso remarked that technocrats should not only be seen as outsiders to politics, noting that some politicians come with strong professional backgrounds.

Kwankwaso assured that an NDC government would avoid delays in forming its cabinet post-inauguration, emphasizing that elected officials have just four years to fulfill their mandates and should start work immediately. He reiterated that competence, experience, and capacity would be the key criteria in selecting individuals to serve the Nigerian populace.

The former Defence Minister also expressed his contentment with serving as vice-president, stating that public service should be focused on contributing to national development rather than merely holding political positions. He highlighted that effective delegation of responsibilities to appointees would enable the administration to deliver good governance and improve the lives of Nigerians.
