Lagos: Skilled artisans in the building industry say they have sought alternative channels to finance their businesses after being neglected by the Federal Government. Alhaji Fasasi Jamiu, the National President of the Builders, Construction and Skilled Artisans Association of Nigeria (BACSAAN), emphasized the significance of their profession, asserting that the government could never do away with their expertise.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Jamiu made these comments during an interview on the sidelines of his association’s signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Identinco Investment Identity Services Limited in Lagos. He expressed disappointment over the federal government’s neglect, despite the significant contributions made by the artisans, who number over 25 million nationwide, to the country’s economy.
Jamiu highlighted the challenges faced by members of BACSAAN, including difficulties in securing government contracts and financial backing for projects. As a result, many artisans have lost valuable contracts or faced intimidation from powerful societal figures. He expressed optimism about the new partnership with Identinco, which promises to provide visibility and a fresh business trajectory within the digital financial ecosystem.
Earlier, Demola Aladekomo, Chairman of Identico Integrated Services Limited, acknowledged the crucial role BACSAAN plays in the economy, emphasizing the need for support to help artisans realize their potential. The partnership aims to create an identity management platform for BACSAAN members, facilitating access to grants and enhancing their connectivity with key industry players. This initiative is designed to bolster the artisans’ presence in the building sector and promote their economic growth.
