Post: Civil Society Groups Urge Nigerian Government to Ensure Reforms Improve Living Conditions

Abuja:A coalition of civil society organizations, led by the Civil Society for Peace, Security and Development (CSPSD), has urged the Nigerian Federal Government to ensure that the benefits of its ongoing reforms lead to better living conditions for citizens. Dr. Kabiru Muhammed, the National Coordinator of the group, made this appeal during a news conference in Abuja following a solidarity rally in celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Muhammed emphasized the importance of translating reforms into tangible improvements such as employment opportunities, food security, affordable transportation, reliable electricity, and better access to education and healthcare. He also called on citizens to support security agencies by providing useful information, promoting peaceful coexistence, and remaining dedicated to national unity.

He commended President Bola Tinubu and the country’s security chiefs for their efforts in restoring peace and strengthening national security. Muhammed highlighted the increased pressure on criminal networks due to the courage and coordination of the armed forces, police, and intelligence agencies. He noted that under Tinubu, security operations have become more intelligence-led and technology-driven, with a focus on inter-agency coordination, which has significantly reduced insecurity across Nigeria.

Muhammed praised the federal government’s investment in infrastructure, education, energy, youth development, technology, and economic reforms. He described these efforts as crucial components of Nigeria’s broader transformation agenda. Despite the hardships faced by citizens, he stated that the Tinubu administration’s economic reforms aim to address long-standing structural challenges and create a sustainable foundation for democratic dividends in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He also acknowledged the government’s infrastructure initiatives, including road and rail projects, with over 2,700 kilometers of highways and major roads under construction. Developments in the energy sector, such as expanding domestic refining capacity and promoting alternative energy, were also recognized. In the realm of human capital development, Muhammed highlighted programs to improve access to education, housing, healthcare, and economic opportunities, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and federal housing initiatives.

In conclusion, Muhammed expressed optimism that ongoing reforms, effective security measures, and responsible citizenship would lead to a safer and more prosperous Nigeria, while congratulating Nigerians worldwide on the country’s independence anniversary.
