Abuja: Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Coronation Group, stated that the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE is poised to significantly enhance Nigeria’s capital market and support economic growth. This announcement was made on Tuesday during the Opening Gong Ceremony and Facts Behind the Offer Presentation at the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Aig-Imoukhuede described the IPO as a pivotal moment for both Nigeria and Africa’s capital markets. He emphasized that the IPO exemplifies the market’s ability to mobilize capital for large-scale productive enterprises. He noted that the offer would expand participation in wealth creation, offering Nigerians and other investors the chance to own shares in a major African industrial enterprise. Aig-Imoukhuede underscored the broader role of the capital market in economic development beyond just providing business financing, highlighting the Dangote initiative as a model for national and continental economic growth.
Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Industries Ltd., remarked that the IPO would broaden participation in Nigeria’s capital market, allowing more Nigerians and African investors to engage in the value generated by leading African businesses. He expressed his commitment to transforming and democratizing the Nigerian Exchange and praised Aig-Imoukhuede’s efforts in making the capital market more accessible. Dangote stated that the offer allows investors and the public to partake in the growth of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE, strengthening Nigeria’s capital market’s capacity to attract both domestic and international investments, thereby encouraging more Nigerian businesses to access the market for financing expansion and job creation.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State also lauded the offer as a significant development for Nigeria and Africa, showcasing Africa’s growing ability to mobilize and deploy capital for its economic development. Sanwo-Olu highlighted the IPO as a demonstration of Africa’s potential to finance and invest in its own ventures, with Dangote’s company leading the charge in transforming the African economic landscape.
