Ojodu: Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has rewarded outstanding teachers and students with cash awards to promote excellence, dedication, and improved learning outcomes in public schools. The Chairman of the council, Mr. David Odunmbaku, presented these awards under his administration’s Annual Teachers Empowerment Project and HEYS Agenda Reloaded, emphasizing education as a key pillar of their initiatives.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the presentation ceremony took place at the council secretariat, Powerline, Oke-Ira, Lagos, with the council chairman represented by his Vice Chairman, Mrs. Funmilayo Layeni. The initiative aims to recognize excellence and encourage commitment among teachers and students. Odunmbaku emphasized that the event was more than just a presentation ceremony but a celebration of education and a reaffirmation of the administration’s commitment to investing in the community’s future.
Odunmbaku highlighted that honoring teachers demonstrates that hard work, discipline, dedication, and perseverance lead to results. The bursary support aims to assist deserving students. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to creating an environment conducive to learning and teaching, ensuring that families receive necessary support.
He disclosed that between 2022 and 2026, his administration has distributed 1,250 General Certificate of Education forms and 1,800 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board forms. Additional resources provided include 60,000 exercise books, 4,000 school bags, 3,730 school uniforms, and 150 Back-To-School kits. Furthermore, 1,100 pairs of desks and chairs have been supplied to public schools across the council area, among other interventions.
The Head of Education Department, Ojodu LCDA, Mr. Akeem Adekoya, praised the chairman for the initiative, noting its potential to motivate teachers to improve their performance. Adekoya stated that the gesture would not only reward excellence but also inspire other teachers to remain committed to their duties.
The awards ceremony recognized Oladapo Adedayo of Ojodu Primary School One as the overall best teacher, awarding him N350,000. Francis Itunu of Ogba Primary School received N250,000 for second place, while Bisilola Oluyemisi also secured N250,000 for third position. Twelve other teachers were awarded N50,000 each, and 60 students received bursaries of N50,000 each. Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the overall best teacher, Adedayo, expressed appreciation to the council chairman for recognizing their efforts.
