Nigeria: Staff of General Hospital, Apapa, have commended the Medical Director, Dr Ime Okon, for improving staff welfare and hospital services in her first 100 days in office. The event marking her 100 days in office was held on Wednesday at General Hospital Apapa.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Dr Adegboyega Adeyemi, a consultant in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, highlighted Okon’s dedication to staff welfare, particularly for doctors. This commitment has positively impacted morale and productivity. Adeyemi also noted Okon’s efforts in settling inherited debts and enhancing the hospital’s relationship with suppliers. Her leadership has attracted interventions to address infrastructure challenges, such as flooding, and has improved laboratory services and other facilities.
Dr Ridwan Kekere-Ekun, Chief Dental Officer, acknowledged Okon’s encouragement of staff participation, motivation, and accountability. This has led to increased revenue and improvements in hospital operations, including
security and punctuality. He also praised her support for the renovation of the maternity ward and development of a new emergency unit.
Dr Oluwatoyin Aroboto, Head of the Eye Clinic and Service Charter, congratulated Okon on the department’s ability to perform major eye surgeries with new instruments. Aroboto appealed for a dedicated theatre for the Eye Clinic to further enhance operations.
Mrs Elizabeth Osibodu, Head of Administration and Human Resources, stated that Okon had improved service delivery and staff welfare since assuming office on June 1. Osibodu highlighted the renovation of the abandoned maternity section and introduction of an antenatal clinic programme.
Ms Margaret Osinowo, Director of Nursing Services and Apex Nurse, described Okon as a transformative leader who has introduced positive changes within 100 days. She noted the renovation of the old maternity ward and improvements in the Accident and Emergency Department.
Miss Hawau Muka-Oshodi from the Domestic Department commended Okon fo
r enhancing the hospital environment and ensuring the functionality of CCTV cameras. Mrs Alimat Abdulquadri, also from the Domestic Department, praised the improved cleanliness across the hospital.
The event included lectures on disciplinary proceedings in the Lagos State public and civil service, as well as HIV prevention and emerging trends. Staff from various departments participated in a quiz competition and received cash prizes for outstanding performance.
