Benin:Farmers across Edo state have begun returning to their farms in all 18 local government areas due to enhanced security measures implemented by Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Alhaji Bako Dogwo, President of the Integrated Farmers Association of Nigeria (IFAN) and Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), announced this development in Benin. Dogwo spoke during an event where the Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Jarrett Tenebe, was installed as Patron of Edo farmers by members of IFAN, AFAN, and the state Federated FADAMA Farmers.
Dogwo praised the governor for improving security, stating that it has restored farmers’ confidence, allowing them to return to their farms. He emphasized that this advancement would boost food production and ensure food security within the state. The farmers gathered at the APC secretariat to honor Tenebe and urged him to act as a liaison between them and the state government.
Hon. Prince Henry Ebole, representing the State Federated FADAMA Farmers, also lauded Okpebholo’s SHINE agenda and pledged the farmers’ support for the administration. Ebole highlighted the essential role farmers play in providing food and employment for the youth, noting that there are currently about 2,000 registered FADAMA farmers. He mentioned plans to expand their numbers through registration and sensitization efforts.
Tenebe, in response, expressed gratitude for being named Patron and committed to supporting the farmers. He emphasized the significance of agriculture to the economy and food security, underscoring that both he and Governor Okpebholo have farming backgrounds. He noted that the governor’s focus on security has made it safer for farmers to resume operations. Tenebe accepted the patronage role and was formally honored at the event.
