Post: Edo Security Officer Issues Warning Against Political Violence Ahead of 2027 Campaigns

Abuja:The Principal Security Officer to Governor Monday Okpebholo, Mr. Augustine Okoh, has issued a warning to residents of Edo against engaging in political violence as the 2027 general election campaigns approach.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Okoh addressed newsmen on Friday, emphasizing the importance of avoiding involvement in political violence. He urged parents, guardians, and community members to advise their wards against being used by politicians or groups for criminal activities or public disorder.

The state government, Okoh stated, will not tolerate political thuggery, intimidation, property destruction, or the possession of dangerous weapons. He warned that any activities threatening public peace before, during, or after the campaign period would not be tolerated.

Okoh revealed that the governor’s special security team has been fully deployed and is on high alert across the state’s 18 local government areas. He made it clear that anyone engaging in political violence or criminal activities would face arrest and prosecution regardless of their status or political affiliation.

He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by maintaining peace and providing useful information to help prevent violence and other criminal activities during the political period.
