Abuja: The Chisco Group has donated two buses to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ikoyi, Lagos, to improve the transportation of awaiting-trial inmates to court. This initiative aims to address the challenge of transporting inmates, ensuring they can attend court sessions without inconvenience.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the donation was announced in a statement issued by the Founder and Executive Chairman of Chisco Group, Dr. Chidi Anyaegbu, on Tuesday. Anyaegbu, who marked his 70th birthday, emphasized the organization’s dedication to supporting inmate rehabilitation across the country. He highlighted that the donation is part of a broader commitment to enhancing the justice system’s efficiency by facilitating the transportation of individuals who require court access.
Anyaegbu expressed that the intervention is not merely ceremonial but a long-term operational commitment. The buses are intended to make the justice process more accessible and effective. Chisco Group plans to apply its expertise in mobility, fleet management, and automotive maintenance to meet this public need.
He stated that the group would support the vehicles’ maintenance and collaborate with correctional authorities to evaluate their impact on court attendance and case progression. Anyaegbu explained that they aim to establish performance indicators to measure the buses’ impact, such as the number of court movements completed, inmates transported, and any reduction in missed court appearances due to transportation issues.
Additionally, the group plans to track vehicle availability, maintenance performance, and the progression of affected awaiting-trial cases. They will compare the results with previous court-transport records to determine the intervention’s actual impact over time. The initiative also includes supporting automotive skills training to further contribute to the community.
