Post: Insurance Commissioner, Ogunlana, and Ilori Receive NIA Honors


Lagos: The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has honored key figures in the Nigerian insurance industry, including Olola Olabode Ogunlana, for their service and contributions to the association’s development. The awards also recognized past chairmen and members of the governing council for their role in shaping the industry.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the awards were presented during the 2026 NIA Awards and Recognition Ceremony in Lagos. Mr. Kunle Ahmed, the Chairman of NIA, emphasized the event’s purpose in celebrating individuals whose vision and commitment have been foundational to the association’s success. Among the honorees was Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, the current Commissioner for Insurance and a former chairman of the association. Ogunlana was recognized as a founding father of the NIA.



Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, the President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, was also honored for her strategic role in building the Insurers House and serving as the first female director-general of the association. Ahmed highlighted the 55-year journey of the NIA, acknowledging the selfless service of its past leaders who upheld high standards and safeguarded the industry’s integrity.



Ahmed expressed appreciation for the past leaders’ vision and sacrifices, noting that their efforts have built a lasting association that inspires confidence among stakeholders. He also announced that the awards and recognition ceremony would become a regular event, approved by the governing council, to continue appreciating those instrumental in the association’s growth.



He urged past leaders to document their experiences to guide future decision-making in the industry. Ahmed expressed optimism that the recognition would inspire current stakeholders to continue building on the legacy of excellence established by the association’s pioneers.



During the ceremony, Mr. Idris Shuaibu, Managing Director of Time-Line Consult Ltd., delivered a lecture on the importance of service-driven leadership. He emphasized that servant leadership fosters trust and collaboration, which are essential for building lasting institutions. Shuaibu advised against autocratic leadership styles, warning of their potential negative impact on organizational growth.



The ceremony’s highlight included timeless photographs and documentaries of the honorees, showcasing the insurance industry’s growth over the years.
