Lagos: Rep. Babajimi Benson (APC-Ikorodu) has facilitated the approval of a new school building and an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre for the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos. The projects, expected to benefit more than 700 students, youths, and community members, aim to address educational infrastructure gaps and expand access to digital skills and technology training.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the projects were approved during Benson’s working visit to the LCDA and are anticipated to be completed before the end of 2026. Benson, who represents Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, stated that the interventions were part of efforts to deliver meaningful dividends of democracy to his constituents. He emphasized that the school building would provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning, while the ICT centre would equip youths and other residents with relevant digital skills.
Benson remarked that education is a critical foundation for community development and pledged continued support for interventions that provide conducive learning environments. He assured residents that appropriate oversight would be provided to ensure that the projects were completed on schedule and to the required standard.
Mr. Hammed Aroyewun, Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, commended Benson for facilitating projects that addressed the immediate needs of residents. Aroyewun highlighted the importance of collaboration between elected representatives and local authorities in attracting development to communities. He noted that the new school facility is expected to improve the learning environment for more than 500 students, while the ICT centre will provide digital skills training for over 200 youths and community members annually.
Aroyewun also mentioned that the projects would create opportunities for technology-driven employment, enterprise development, and access to modern learning resources. The LCDA plans to collaborate with relevant authorities to monitor the projects and ensure their timely completion.
Residents of the area expressed approval of the developments. Mr. Kunle Adebayo described the intervention as beneficial, indicating that improved school facilities would contribute to better learning outcomes. Mrs. Yetunde Salami remarked that the ICT centre would provide young people with easier access to digital skills, enhancing their employment prospects.
