Lagos: The Lagos State government is set to collaborate with the Safety Commission to host the Lagos State Occupational Safety and Health Conference, LASOSH 2025. Global leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders are expected to converge for the conference with the theme ‘Occupational Safety and Health as a Catalyst for Nation Building.’
According to Voice of Nigeria, a statement signed by the commission indicates that the event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island. The Director General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, stated that the event aims to move beyond conversations to concrete policy actions, uniting critical stakeholders to create a sustainable safety framework.
The statement elaborates that Occupational Safety and Health is not just about compliance but involves protecting lives, preserving dignity, and driving Lagos’s growth story. At LASOSH 2025, efforts will be made to foster a culture of safety, innovation, and resilience in Lagos, where every life is valued.
The LASOSH Conference 2025 is set against the backdrop of Lagos State’s rapid urbanization, industrial expansion, and rising population density, which present complex safety challenges. These challenges include managing large events, building collapses, transport accidents, industrial hazards, emergency preparedness, and risks in informal sectors.
The summit will emphasize the importance of Occupational Safety and Health as a policy and developmental imperative. This aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of making Lagos Africa’s Model Megacity and a Global Economic Hub that is Safe, Secure, Functional, and Productive.
The conference is expected to provide key policy directions, such as integrating Occupational Safety and Health into Nigeria’s national and state development plans, institutionalizing Safety Impact Assessments for major development projects, and enforcing occupier’s liability insurance across commercial buildings to protect the public.
Additionally, efforts are being made to strengthen legislative backing for Occupational Safety and Health standards in both public and private sectors. This includes integrating safety into urban planning, transport reforms, and tourism regulation, as well as leveraging technology to enhance data-driven safety management systems. By embedding safety into economic and social planning, Lagos aims to boost productivity, safeguard lives, attract sustainable investment, and reinforce public trust.
The government sees the conference as an opportunity to establish a resilient and adaptable Occupational Safety and Health management system. This includes defining stakeholder roles and developing a roadmap aligned with international best practices to reduce accidents and protect workers.
