Akwanga: The Nasarawa State Government has announced the allocation of two billion naira for scholarships and bursary allowances throughout the state. Governor Abdullahi Sule made this declaration during the initiation ceremony of the 2023/2024 bursary allowances at the College of Education, located in the Akwanga local government area.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Governor Sule highlighted the state’s commitment not only to covering NECO fees but also to supporting over 150 students on international scholarships and more than 30,000 students enrolled in various institutions across Nigeria. He commended the executive secretary of the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board for implementing a transparent process that resulted in the refund of excess funds following the beneficiaries’ screening.
Additionally, the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board, Hajiya Sa’adatu Yahaya, discussed the significance of the initiative. She disclosed that over sixteen thousand seven hundred students would benefit from the exercise, which requires over five hundred million naira in funding.
The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Mamman, emphasized the importance of the government’s educational policy and encouraged students to use the bursary allowance wisely. Comrade Abimuku Ovey, National President of the Nasarawa State Students Association (NASSA), expressed gratitude to Governor Sule and confirmed that the allowances would assist students in their academic pursuits. He also reassured that students would continue to represent the state positively, both within Nigeria and internationally.
