Post: Nigeria Boosts Technical Cooperation with Caribbean States

Nigeria: Nigeria has stepped up technical cooperation with Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, and Barbados as part of efforts to deepen South-South ties among Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) countries.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) revealed that its Director-General, Yusuf Yakub, initiated this push during a working visit to these three Caribbean countries on behalf of President Bola Tinubu. Yakub’s mission focused on expanding capacity building and deploying Nigerian professionals under the Technical Aid Corps scheme.

In Trinidad and Tobago, Yakub held discussions with Foreign and CARICOM Affairs Minister Sean Sobers, emphasizing the expansion of technical assistance in line with President Tinubu’s vision for stronger development partnerships across the Global South. The talks concentrated on capacity building and the deployment of Nigerian professionals.

During his visit to Grenada, Yakub met with Foreign Minister Joseph Andall and health officials to discuss healthcare cooperation, training, and technical support. This engagement aimed at augmenting the existing healthcare framework through enhanced collaboration and technical assistance.

The discussions in Barbados primarily centered on education. Minister of Educational Transformation Sandra Husbands underscored the significance of international partnerships in fostering innovation and human capital development. Barbados officials also expressed interest in broadening cooperation into sectors such as culture, film, fashion, and agriculture.

NTAC stated that these engagements highlight Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and promoting sustainable development through technical cooperation.
