Abuja: The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) have congratulated Malam Ali Muhammad Ali on his reappointment as Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). The unions, in separate messages, described the reappointment as recognition of Ali’s professionalism, experience, and leadership in strengthening the agency.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the NUJ President, Mr. Alhassan Abdullahi, stated that the reappointment demonstrated confidence in Ali’s leadership and the progress recorded by NAN under his stewardship. He emphasized that Ali’s renewed appointment is a well-deserved recognition of his wealth of experience, professionalism, and commitment to strengthening NAN as a credible and globally respected news agency.
Abdullahi commended Ali for his contributions to news gathering, dissemination, and professional journalism, particularly on the efforts to combat misinformation and promote credible information. He expressed confidence that the renewed mandate would enable Ali to consolidate NAN’s achievements, embrace emerging technologies, and strengthen its position in the digital media environment. Abdullahi added that there is confidence that Ali’s renewed mandate will provide opportunities to consolidate the gains already recorded and further position NAN to meet evolving demands.
The RATTAWU General-Secretary, Mr. Akpausoh Akpausoh, also congratulated Ali, describing his reappointment as testimony to his professionalism and administrative competence. He stated that this reappointment certainly confirms Ali’s doggedness and professionalism in the discharge of his duties in the organization. Akpausoh commended Ali’s leadership style and administration, adding that the reappointment was a well-deserved recognition and vote of confidence in his capabilities. He expressed wishes for Allah’s guidance and support in Ali’s duties ahead.
The unions wished Ali renewed strength and wisdom to pilot the affairs of the agency and Nigeria’s media industry. President Bola Tinubu approved Ali’s reappointment for another three-year term as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NAN on August 23. Ali was first appointed on October 20, 2023, and the second term will begin on October 20, 2026.
A veteran journalist and media manager with over 30 years of experience, the NAN chief executive has a keen interest in media evolution and content development in a digital world, meeting the needs of a diverse population with alternative news feeds. Ali holds a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, a first degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano.
