Lagos: The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has announced its intention to model the inaugural Nigeria Super League (NSL) after the renowned Indian Premier League (IPL). This initiative aims to elevate Nigerian cricket by showcasing the best of the sport within the country and beyond.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Musa Ehizoje, the Public Relations Officer of the NCF, explained that the NSL will be an elite league designed to bring together top players from clubs across Nigeria into a cohesive national club system. Ehizoje highlighted the federation’s goal to mirror the IPL, a franchise league featuring some of the finest players globally. The NCF envisions that the NSL will eventually attract international players who can be bid for during the league.
Ehizoje emphasized that while the league’s immediate focus is on bolstering Nigeria’s cricket standards, the long-term objective is to create a sustainable pathway for players to compete at the highest levels. The inaugural edition of the NSL is set to run from Saturday to May 30 at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Oval in Lagos, featuring six participating teams.
