Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, announced that the FCT Administration is working on expanding infrastructure across Abuja’s satellite towns to curb rural-urban migration and promote balanced development. This statement was made during a recent inspection of the ongoing construction of the 13-kilometre Gomani to Yangoji Road in the Kwali Area Council of Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project, emphasizing that the road, once completed, would connect rural communities to major city roads. This development aligns with a presidential directive to decentralize development beyond the city center. President Bola Tinubu has directed that development efforts should not be concentrated solely in urban areas, urging the opening up of satellite towns to discourage rural-urban migration.
The minister highlighted the strategic development along the road corridor, noting that the A2 (Abuja to Lokoja Expressway) to Pai has been completed and inaugurated in 2025, marking Tinubu’s second year in office. Work on the Painto Gomani section is ongoing, while the Gomani to Yangoji stretch is nearing completion. Wike expressed optimism that the latter would be ready for inauguration in June, coinciding with Tinubu’s third year in office.
Wike commended the contractor, Zeberced, for maintaining technical precision and adhering to the project timeline. He praised the contractor for delivering quality work and for the ongoing installation of streetlight pillars. Wike expressed confidence that the transformation of the satellite towns would become a source of pride for the presidency.
