Abuja:The Military Pensions Board (MPB) and military veterans have come together to address grievances regarding the recent consequential pension adjustment. This agreement for transparent engagement followed an interactive session between AVM Mikail Abdulraheem, Chairman of the MPB, and veterans in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Abdulraheem emphasized the board’s commitment to adhering to pension administration laws and salary structures as provided by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission. The commission’s revised salary structure for pension purposes, effective from September 1, 2026, forms the basis for calculating pension entitlements.
The MPB chairman clarified that pension computations are guided by a formula that considers years of service, allowing entitlements to range from a minimum to a maximum of 90% of the final emolument after 35 years. This approach ensures consistency for current and future pensioners.
Veterans were encouraged to submit their pension calculations and supporting documents to identify and resolve discrepancies between expected and received amounts. The board showed willingness to explain its computations and work with relevant authorities for further clarification.
Abdulraheem highlighted the involvement of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission in explaining the revised salary structure and urged veterans’ organizations to engage with the board through coordinated channels to streamline communication.
Veterans expressed the need for transparency in the adjustments, noting discrepancies in increases received and differences in arrears for different ranks. Retired MWO Duru Augustine called for clarity on how the revised salary structure translates into pension amounts.
The meeting allowed for discussion, although full reconciliation of the disputed calculations was not reached.
