Abuja: The Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the Infrastructure Corporation of Nigeria (InfraCorp), and Solarge BV of the Netherlands have officially announced the establishment of Solarge Nigeria Limited. This special-purpose vehicle will be tasked with setting up and operating a one-gigawatt solar photovoltaic panel manufacturing facility in Nigeria. This significant development aims to fast-track Nigeria’s energy transition and industrialization plans.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the agreement was signed at the InfraCorp office in Abuja, marking a pivotal step toward the country’s energy goals. This collaboration aligns with the Federal Government of Nigeria’s National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative (NPSSI) and the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF), which seek to expand clean energy access and bolster local content in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector.
During the signing ceremony, Tanimu Yakubu-Kurfi, the Director General of the Budget Office, highlighted that the partnership exemplifies the innovation and collaboration promoted under the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund. Yakubu-Kurfi noted that the agreement would support Nigeria’s fiscal sustainability objectives and enhance its industrial foundation and energy self-reliance.
Lazarus Angbazo, Managing Director and CEO of InfraCorp, stated that Solarge Nigeria Limited signifies a bold move toward local manufacturing and energy independence. “We’re proud to partner with REA and Solarge BV to build a resilient and sustainable energy future for Nigeria,” Angbazo said. Joost Brinkman, CEO of Solarge BV, also expressed excitement, emphasizing that Solarge Nigeria Ltd will set a new standard for solar manufacturing in Africa.
Abba Abubakar Aliyu, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, explained that the joint venture would not only create access to clean energy but also build local capacity for its manufacture. This initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda and REA’s mandate to electrify communities and institutions.
The special-purpose vehicle, Solarge Nigeria Limited, will be co-owned by InfraCorp, REA, and Solarge BV, leveraging each partner’s strengths. InfraCorp will mobilize investments, REA will provide policy leadership, and Solarge BV will contribute advanced technology and manufacturing expertise to localize high-quality solar PV production in Nigeria.
Key project highlights include a one-gigawatt solar PV factory to be constructed in Nigeria, with a target of achieving 50% local content within the first three years. The facility will support technology transfer, capacity building, and job creation, furthering Nigeria’s energy transition and industrial policy goals.
Under the strategic offtake agreement, REA has committed to purchasing at least 200MW of solar modules annually over five years from Solarge Nigeria Ltd for NPSSI, RHIDF, and other public electrification programs. This initiative commenced with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 7, 2025, marking the formal launch of the NPSSI.
The partnership addresses a national priority by providing clean, reliable energy to critical infrastructure, reducing diesel dependency, and cutting the public sector’s carbon footprint. The MoU also emphasizes stronger public-private collaboration to drive localized renewable energy manufacturing and transition Nigeria toward more sustainable energy financing models.
