Abuja: The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has assured Nigerians that the country is on a trajectory toward sustained prosperity, dismissing claims that Nigeria is on the verge of collapse. Idris made this statement at the 2026 Voice of Nigeria (VON) Forum, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to repositioning Nigeria as a leading African nation.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Idris urged Nigerians to reject the notion that the country is nearing collapse, a narrative he described as misleading and detrimental to national confidence. He pointed out that individuals who propagate these stories are paradoxically planning their futures within the country, which contradicts their claims of impending collapse.
Addressing security and economic challenges, Idris highlighted the government’s proactive measures under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. He noted significant budget allocations to security, aimed at modernizing military capabilities and enhancing national safety. The minister cited successful military operations against terror groups and collaborative efforts with international partners to bolster regional stability.
Idris also underscored the positive economic indicators, including easing inflation rates, rising foreign direct investment, and a robust GDP growth forecast. He emphasized that these achievements reflect a nation on the path to recovery and growth, not collapse. The minister encouraged a shift in national narratives to attract investment and bolster public morale.
Highlighting international collaborations, Idris mentioned U.S. investments in Nigeria’s health sector, which contribute to the country’s development and contradict collapse narratives. He cited optimistic economic projections from global financial institutions, further reinforcing Nigeria’s positive outlook.
The Director-General of VON, Malam Jibrin Ndace, echoed Idris’s sentiments, aligning the forum’s objectives with President Tinubu’s agenda of strengthening democratic institutions and promoting national cohesion. Ndace emphasized the importance of informed public discourse and civil responsibility in fostering sustainable development.
The forum also honored the contributions of diplomats, journalists, and military personnel to regional peace and stability, celebrating the legacy of Nigeria’s founding fathers in fostering a united West African region.
