Post: NPFL Bans Lekan Salami Stadium, Moves 3SC Matches Out of Ibadan

Ibadan: The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has directed Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan to temporarily move their home matches to either MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, or Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos. This decision was outlined in a letter signed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi and sent to the Chairman of Shooting Stars Sport Club.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the directive was issued due to the poor condition of the football pitch at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, which is the home ground for 3SC. The league stated that the current state of the pitch is unsuitable for television broadcast, failing to meet the standards required for NPFL matches concerning broadcast quality and player safety.

The NPFL highlighted that this move is essential to uphold the integrity of the league, ensure quality match presentation, and protect the welfare of players, officials, and broadcasters. The letter mentioned that as a result of the recent broadcast and television rights a
greements, the Lekan Salami Stadium no longer qualifies to host NPFL matches.

The letter further instructed 3SC to choose an alternative venue between the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta and the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos for their home fixtures. The NPFL has requested a response from 3SC by the close of business on February 2, 2026, warning that failure to reply would result in the NPFL allocating a venue for them.
