Post: Oyo State Government Settles Gratuities for Over 8,000 Pensioners

Ibadan: The Oyo State Government announced that it has successfully paid gratuities to more than 8,545 pensioners over the past six years.

According to Voice of Nigeria, this revelation was made by the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, during a live broadcast on an Ibadan television station. Professor Adelabu highlighted that the significant progress in clearing outstanding gratuities was achieved after the government increased the monthly gratuity payment from 100 million to ?1 billion.

He elaborated that this strategic move accelerated the clearance process, allowing more retirees to receive their entitlements promptly. Additionally, the implementation of the ?80,000 minimum wage has positively influenced the benefits of pensioners. Recalculation exercises for those who retired from July last year to the present have ensured fairer payments, thereby alleviating the financial burden on retirees.

Professor Adelabu noted that in 2025, a total of 1,906 pensioners had received their full gratuities. He stated that between May and August alone, approximately 1,500 retirees, particularly those with gratuities ranging from N1 million to N3.5 million, were successfully settled.

He reassured pensioners that Governor Seyi Makinde is committed to their welfare and is determined to clear all outstanding gratuity backlogs before the end of his administration. ‘The Governor has assured us that no backlog will be left behind. The welfare of our pensioners remains a top priority of this government,’ the Commissioner emphasized.
