Post: PDP Initiates Screening for 2027 Presidential and Governorship Aspirants


Abuja: The Abdulraman Mohammed-led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the commencement of screening for its presidential and governorship aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections. This development was made known through a statement issued by the National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, representing the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the screening for governorship aspirants is scheduled to take place at noon on Thursday at the PDP National Secretariat Annex, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja. The screening for presidential aspirants is set to begin at 2 p.m. at the same location. The committee overseeing the presidential aspirants’ screening is chaired by former Governor of Abia, Okezie Ikpeazu, with Hassan Sokodobo serving as Secretary. Additional members include Alhaji Abba Isawa, Sen. George Sekibo, Sodipo Semiu, Mrs Chinelo Chidebelu, Nasiru Mohammed, Sen. Zainab Kure, and Lindsey Sora.

ernorship aspirants’ screening committee is chaired by former Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, with George Ariolu as Secretary. Other committee members comprise Dr Ibrahim Umar, Prof. Aisha Madawaki, Tajudeen Yusuf, Dr Abdulganiyu Oloyin, Babangida Modibbo, Alhaji Buba Biri, Olaniyi Ogungbuji, Mike Ahumibe, Gabriel Igboko, Pastor Tony Effiong, and Mrs Precious Ojelabi.

Furthermore, the News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Tanimu Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee of the PDP extended the deadline for the purchase of nomination and expression of interest forms for the 2027 general elections. This extension was announced in a public notice jointly signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, and the National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Shan. The new deadline for purchasing forms is set for May 15, with the final date for returning completed forms extended to May 18. The interim NWC has scheduled the screening of aspirants for May 19. This decision comes after appeals fro
m stakeholders and aspirants across the federation. It was clarified that aspirants for National and State Assembly positions will be screened in their respective states, while governorship and presidential aspirants will undergo screening in Abuja.
