Post: PDP Prepares for Transparent Primaries Ahead of 2027 Elections

Abuja: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership, with support from the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced its readiness to conduct credible primaries at all levels in preparation for the 2027 general elections. The party’s National Chairman, Abdulraman Mohammed, assured members that the primaries would produce candidates appealing to Nigerians.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mohammed praised the loyalty and commitment of the party’s leaders and members, particularly during its crisis period. He noted that discipline, loyalty, and belief in the process had preserved the PDP’s essence and repositioned it for a stronger future. Mohammed emphasized that the party is no longer in distress but is now a robust political institution focused on the future.

Mohammed stated that the PDP had successfully navigated internal challenges and is now aligned with constitutional provisions, the Electoral Act, and guidelines from the Independent National Electoral Commission. He declared that the era of uncertainty is over, and the party is now on a path of strategy, consolidation, and electoral preparation.

He reiterated the party’s commitment to conducting transparent, credible, and inclusive primaries in compliance with existing laws and democratic best practices. Mohammed stressed that the PDP is determined to produce candidates who reflect the will of its members and Nigerians’ aspirations. He urged party members to prioritize the collective interests of the party over personal ambitions.

In his remarks, the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Sen. Mao Ohuabunwa, pledged support for the party and emphasized the need for unity and a focus on strengthening internal processes. Ohuabunwa highlighted the importance of cohesion and the need to reconcile differences among party members.

Ohuabunwa also praised the ongoing membership e-registration process, describing it as a vital effort in building a transparent and accountable party structure. Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Abba Moro, stated that the PDP crisis was over and called for efforts to rebuild and strengthen the party. Moro noted that the party’s e-registration indicates that PDP remains the dominant party in Nigeria.

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, congratulated the new National Working Committee members and pledged the loyalty of PDP lawmakers to the party.
