Abuja:At an event commemorating World Teachers’ Day, the Regalo Hope Foundation (RHF) emphasized the importance of maintaining professional ethics and accountability in teaching. Dr. Chinenye Onuorah, Project Director of RHF, addressed educators at the 2026 RHF Educators Seminar held at the foundation’s Resource and Learning Centre, highlighting the need to preserve the integrity and legacy of the teaching profession.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the seminar, themed ‘Standing with Teachers, 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing its Status and Shaping Our Future,’ provided a platform for empowering educators with practical knowledge and skills. Ms. Jane Obodoekea, RHF’s Director of Operations, discussed the seminar’s focus on empowering teachers and addressing issues like poor administration and corruption that weaken educational standards and public trust.
The event also saw the induction of 83 educators into the RHF Leadership Academy. Dr. Onuorah urged teachers to be transparent about students’ academic challenges with parents to support timely interventions. She cautioned against transferring students between schools for better grades without genuine academic effort, which could undermine students’ learning commitment.
Ms. Obodoekea expressed concern over teachers’ involvement in examination malpractice, urging collective efforts from government, schools, parents, and students to uphold professionalism and accountability in teaching. She highlighted the need for a reliable framework to maintain standards and prepare future generations, mentioning RHF Teachers Leadership Academy’s courses aimed at enhancing teachers’ skills and classroom experiences.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that this year’s World Teachers’ Day theme underscores the importance of advancing the teaching profession. Mrs. Adelano Tolulope, a seminar participant, called for improved welfare and policies against malpractice to restore the profession’s dignity. Mr. Elijah Akhabigimhe praised RHF’s seminars for providing valuable insights and sustaining discussions on educational development.
