Abuja:Segun Showunmi, the Convener of The Alternative Movement, has expressed strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, emphasizing that he believes only Tinubu can lead Nigeria towards prosperity.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Showunmi, who is also a member of the Tinubu/Shettima 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, made his support known during a news conference in Abuja. He presented a statement titled ‘Nigeria Must Not Abandon Its Journey to Prosperity. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu The Promise of a Greater Nigeria, National Stability and Prosperity for All.’
Showunmi urged Nigerians to vote for continuity in the upcoming election, highlighting ongoing economic reforms, infrastructure projects, and the potential for long-term national stability. He argued that Nigeria is at a crucial juncture and must continue building on the foundations currently being laid.
He stressed his belief that the current difficulties are a precursor to sustainable growth, with the benefits of reforms expected to become increasingly evident in everyday life. Showunmi noted that prosperity should be widespread, benefiting small business owners, farmers, and young graduates alike.
A second term for President Tinubu, according to Showunmi, would focus on accelerating the implementation of policy reforms, leading to job creation, industrial growth, and improved living standards across all six geopolitical zones. He emphasized the importance of sustained development efforts and productive investment to unlock Nigeria’s potential.
Showunmi acknowledged Nigeria’s challenges, including economic bottlenecks and infrastructure deficits, but praised Tinubu’s reform agenda as a necessary step towards addressing these issues. He highlighted several significant initiatives, such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the Electricity Act 2023, which aim to enhance education access and decentralize power production.
Key infrastructure projects, such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, were cited as examples of efforts to drive regional integration and economic growth. Showunmi also commended fiscal reforms and security enhancements aimed at boosting private investment and safeguarding national interests.
He called on Nigerian youths to embrace their role in the nation’s transformation, advocating for vocational training and local manufacturing incentives to prevent talent migration. Showunmi concluded by urging all Nigerians to prioritize national development over partisan politics.
