Abuja: The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, has called for reforms within the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to enhance road safety delivery nationwide. Akume made this call in Abuja during the First Quarter 2026 Corps Marshal Strategy Session with the FRSC High Command.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event was themed ‘Driving Excellence Through Performance Review, Strategic Coordination, and Enhanced Road Safety Delivery.’ Akume, represented by Kamila Kide, Director Legal, emphasized the need for technology-driven operations and strengthened accountability within the corps. He conveyed the goodwill of President Bola Tinubu and highlighted the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a framework for national transformation and improved service delivery.

The SGF described the strategy session as a timely platform for the FRSC to evaluate its performance against strategic goals. He stressed the need for realigned operational priorities focusing on efficiency, accountability, and results-driven governance. Akume underscored the pivotal role of the FRSC in Nigeria’s development, noting that road safety is a critical enabler of economic growth and public confidence in governance.

He pointed out that the operating environment is becoming increasingly complex due to factors like rising vehicular density and changing road user behavior. Akume called for the corps to intensify the deployment of technology-driven solutions and enhance transparency in its operations, with digital transformation and innovation becoming central to the corps’ strategy.

The SGF commended the inclusive participation at the session, indicating coordinated leadership and institutional cohesion. He emphasized that assessments should serve as performance management tools to drive accountability and promote continuous improvement. Akume reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the FRSC in delivering safe and reliable road transport systems.

The session also saw Malam Shehu Mohammed, the FRSC Corps Marshal, expressing appreciation to the SGF for sustained support and commending President Tinubu’s leadership in governance reforms. Mohammed highlighted the complex operational environment the FRSC faces and outlined strategies for addressing these challenges, including technology deployment and stronger stakeholder partnerships.

Mohammed praised the dedication of FRSC officers and urged them to remain focused on achieving greater impact. He expressed optimism that the session’s outcomes would strengthen the FRSC’s institutional framework and enhance its efficiency in delivering on its mandate.
