Post: Supreme Court Judgment Creates Leadership Void in PDP: Turaki-Led Faction Reacts

Abuja: The Tanimu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that the recent Supreme Court judgment has left the main opposition party without a defined leadership structure. Ini Ememobong, the National Publicity Secretary of the faction, issued a statement in Abuja reacting to Thursday’s Supreme Court decision concerning the party’s leadership crisis.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Supreme Court’s split decision maintained the nullification of the party’s Ibadan convention. Ememobong highlighted that the majority of the Supreme Court justices upheld the lower courts’ decision to nullify the convention, while the minority judgments considered the matters as internal issues of the PDP and deemed them non-justiciable.

Ememobong further explained that the judgment also affirmed the Court of Appeal’s suspension of Ajibade, Samuel Anyanwu, and others, leaving the PDP without clear leadership. He stated that the existing organs of the party are expected to take necessary measures to restore leadership and stability within the party.

The statement warned that the current situation poses a significant risk to the party’s future and could have implications for multi-party democracy in the country if not carefully addressed.
