Post: Tinubu Administration Advocates for Continuity in 2027 Elections

Abuja:As Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections, President Bola Tinubu’s administration is advocating for continuity, highlighting achievements in economic reforms, infrastructure development, and social investments.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the administration’s case was articulated by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, during a media interaction with senior editors at Radio House in Abuja. Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, was also present to support the presentation with additional insights into the administration’s policies.

Idris emphasized that the economic reforms are yielding measurable results, although cost-of-living pressures remain a significant concern for households. He outlined the government’s priority to translate improving economic indicators into more jobs, productive businesses, and greater purchasing power for Nigerians. The economy is projected to grow by over four percent in 2026, with a current account surplus reaching $12 billion in the first half of 2026, up from $8.6 billion in the same period of 2025. Inflation has decreased from 27 percent in January 2025 to about 15 percent, and external reserves have exceeded $54 billion as of September, the highest level in almost two decades.

The administration has also focused on infrastructure, with four legacy projects spanning approximately 3,000 kilometers across various geopolitical zones, along with investments in roads, railways, ports, electricity, healthcare, and education. An approved highway project worth roughly N1.5 trillion in Niger State is expected to enhance connectivity along an essential agricultural and commercial corridor. The government is also working on mechanization and improved access to farm inputs to boost domestic production and reduce food costs.

In the health sector, five cancer treatment centers have been commissioned, with plans for ten more, and efforts are underway to revitalize primary healthcare. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has supported over 1.6 million students with substantial tuition and upkeep allowances. In digital skills, the Three Million Technical Talent program is expanding training in various tech fields.

The administration’s initiatives in the energy sector include the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicle Initiative, attracting significant private investment and establishing numerous vehicle conversion centers and refueling stations. Additionally, a N758 billion bond has been issued to clear pension arrears, benefiting nearly a million pensioners, and N1.2 trillion in bonds have been issued to settle debts with electricity generation and gas companies.

On security, improved logistics and coordination have bolstered operations against various criminal activities. Despite persistent security challenges, the government remains committed to securing every part of the country.

Idris also highlighted fiscal federalism efforts, including increased financial transfers to state and local governments and proposals for state police and electricity reforms. He referenced a World Bank report noting a significant increase in state capital expenditures between 2023 and 2025, part of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In conclusion, Idris urged journalists to scrutinize the government while providing context on economic pressures and achievements. Onanuga emphasized responsible journalism and accountability, warning against misleading headlines that could cause public anxiety. As the 2027 elections near, the administration’s supporters argue that re-electing Tinubu would sustain reforms and deliver long-term benefits to Nigerians, while voters will ultimately decide based on the administration’s progress and their expectations for a prosperous and secure Nigeria.
