Abuja: President Bola Tinubu on Friday welcomed the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, at the Presidential Villa in an effort to foster religious harmony and national cohesion.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Sultan, who also serves as the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), met with President Tinubu behind closed doors. This meeting followed a recent engagement between President Tinubu and the Archbishop of Abuja Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, both aimed at promoting interfaith dialogue.
While the specifics of the discussions between President Tinubu and the Sultan were not disclosed, it is believed that the focus was on enhancing interfaith understanding and promoting national unity and development. This effort comes in the wake of recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned of potential action against Nigeria over alleged anti-Christian incidents.
Following the meeting, the Sultan participated in the Juma’at prayer alongside President Tinubu at the State House Mosque. During the prayer, the Imam, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Abubakar, called upon Nigerians to support the government’s initiatives for peace and security, emphasizing the importance of peace for both personal advancement and national progress.
