Post: Tinubu Pledges Comprehensive Water Supply Across All FCT Area Councils

Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has promised that the ongoing provision of clean water by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) would be extended to all the area councils of the territory. Tinubu, represented by the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, gave the assurance while inaugurating the newly constructed Bwari Water Supply Network, in Bwari on Tuesday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, for years, residents of Bwari, Ushafa, and surrounding communities have relied on water from untreated boreholes and streams. The inauguration of the water supply project is seen as a fulfillment of Tinubu’s administration’s promise under the Renewed Hope Agenda, described as ‘not merely a slogan but a contract.’ As the administration marks its third anniversary, the president highlighted the significance of the project by stating, “Water is life. Clean water is dignity; it is a fundamental right, not a luxury.”

The new 198-kilometre water pipeline network links Bwari township and its environs directly to the major treated water source at the Lower Usuma Dam. This development aims to eradicate waterborne diseases and reduce the need for individual boreholes. Tinubu emphasized that this initiative is a part of a broader water revolution that will eventually cover Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Abaji.

The president also praised the efforts of FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, for his dedication and contributions to the territory. He noted Wike’s role in boosting the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue and executing significant projects across various sectors, including roads, housing, and now water, as a testament to his commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Earlier, FCT Minister Wike recounted Tinubu’s directive to expand water supply to satellite towns, a mandate given during the inauguration of the Greater Abuja Water Project in 2025. Following this directive, the Karu Water Supply Network was inaugurated on June 29, and now the Bwari Water Supply Network has been launched. Wike assured, “Let people know that we’re not only concentrating on roads; we’re also making sure other sectors are being touched.”
