Abuja: Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has addressed demands for his dismissal, asserting that it is within President Bola Tinubu’s prerogative to decide his fate if deemed necessary. Wike made these remarks during a ‘thank you’ visit to his Local Government Area, Obio-Akpor, in Rivers, emphasizing the unwavering support he has received from his constituents since 1999.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, several politicians and interest groups have urged President Tinubu to terminate Wike’s appointment due to the ongoing political crisis in Rivers. Wike, however, dismissed these calls, stating that politics revolves around interests, particularly the interests of the people. He highlighted the significant influence Obio/Akpor holds in determining political outcomes in Rivers, claiming that no governor or senator has been elected without the area’s endorsement.
Wike further stated that President Tinubu is fully aware of his capabilities and does not require advice from others regarding his role. He praised Tinubu for his contributions to Rivers and promised that the people would reciprocate in 2027. Addressing his critics, Wike declared his commitment to politics, urging them to let him pursue his political ambitions.
Mr. Kingsley Chinda, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, underscored Obio/Akpor’s political clout, noting its substantial voter base. Chinda assured Wike of the area’s unwavering support, inviting him to guide their political actions.
Dr. Gift Worlu, Chairman of the Council, lauded Wike’s accomplishments, attributing the benefits the LGA has received to his support for Tinubu’s election in 2023. Worlu affirmed that the community is strategically planning for the 2027 presidential election.
Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers House of Assembly, echoed the support for Wike, pledging continued backing from the State Assembly for Tinubu’s re-election.
