Maiduguri: Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno has congratulated Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed-Aliyu on her appointment as the first female Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). According to News Agency of Nigeria, the announcement was made in a statement by Mr. Dauda Iliya, the Special Adviser to Zulum on Media.
Zulum acknowledged Mohammed-Aliyu’s extensive career at NAN, where she has served diligently for 34 years. Her appointment is seen as a significant milestone for the agency and the journalism profession in Nigeria. The governor expressed his excitement upon learning about her elevation to head the editorial team of over 500 editors and reporters across the agency’s national offices and 18 districts.
The governor emphasized the importance of maintaining the editorial standards that have established NAN as a credible news source. He encouraged Mohammed-Aliyu to enhance the agency’s efforts in combating false information, misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech, especially as Nigeria enters the campaign period.
Mohammed-Aliyu, a Mass Communication graduate from the University of Maiduguri, is the first woman to lead NAN’s editorial team since its inception more than four decades ago. Zulum extended his best wishes for her tenure, urging her to guide the agency with professionalism and integrity.
