Jos: The Rotary Club International, District 9127, has conducted free medical screenings for 500 residents in Jos as part of activities marking its 121st anniversary. Mr. Owolabi Folaranmi, Assistant Governor of the Rotary Club of Jos and State Coordinator for the Rotary Day Celebration (RODAC), announced this initiative on Monday, emphasizing its aim to promote preventive healthcare and support vulnerable community members.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the screening was designed to help residents detect health conditions early and seek appropriate medical attention. Folaranmi stated that Rotary remains dedicated to humanitarian service and improving the wellbeing of people through community-based interventions.
Beneficiaries of the program expressed appreciation for the Rotary Club’s gesture, noting its timeliness amid rising healthcare costs. Miss Justina Abel, a beneficiary, praised the initiative for allowing individuals to know their health status without financial burden. Similarly, Miss Promise John highlighted the importance of such initiatives for indigent residents and called for more organizations to replicate the gesture.
Mr. Godwin Yohanna, another beneficiary, remarked on the club’s genuine concern for the community’s health. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the free medical screening provided beneficiaries with access to basic healthcare services, including blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, eye examinations, hepatitis and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) checks, general medical consultations, free medications, and referrals.
The News Agency of Nigeria also noted that Rotary International, founded on February 23, 1905, is a global humanitarian organization focused on disease prevention, health promotion, peace building, and community development.
