Post: RCCG Cleric Calls on Nigerian Leaders to Use Power for Citizen Protection

Abuja:Pastor David Okoror, the Zonal Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Everlasting Light Parish in Abuja, has urged Nigerian leaders to wield their power and authority as protective measures for citizens, rather than as tools for deprivation.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Okoror made this call during the church’s Yoruba Cultural Sunday celebration, themed, ‘Our Culture Is Not Evil and Should Not Die.’ The cleric emphasized the importance of gratitude amidst Nigeria’s current challenges, invoking 1 Thessalonians 518 from the Bible, which encourages giving thanks in all circumstances.

Okoror highlighted the significance of cultural diversity, celebrating the contributions of the Yoruba people to national development in various fields, including education and medicine. He underscored that celebrating Yoruba culture in a diverse congregation exemplifies the unity necessary to address Nigeria’s challenges.

The cleric also addressed the responsibility of political leaders to protect citizens from insecurity, unemployment, and other socioeconomic issues. He warned against the misuse of power, which could lead to citizen hardship and rights deprivation, while expressing hope for the nation’s future if citizens maintain faith in God.

Otunba Oreoluwa Ariba, the Parish Pastor, echoed similar sentiments, using the cultural celebration to express gratitude to God and uphold Yoruba heritage. Dr. Bolaji Mejabi, a lecturer at Baze University, stressed the need to preserve African culture and correct misconceptions, urging parents to instill cultural values in their children.

The event, reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, showcased cultural dance, drama, and traditional delicacies.
