Benin: Mr Frank Pax-Osifo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2027 Edo South Senatorial Election, has urged party members to unite behind his candidacy to reclaim the senatorial seat from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Pax-Osifo made the call while speaking with journalists at the Benin Airport shortly after returning from Abuja, where he received his certificate of return as the PDP’s candidate for the 2027 senatorial election. He urged party faithful to put the primary election behind them and work together to secure victory at the polls.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Pax-Osifo emphasized his intention to bring all forces together, describing himself as a bridge builder. He called for unity within the party to ensure a strong performance in the forthcoming election. Pax-Osifo stated that his aspiration is driven by a desire to improve the lives of the people of Edo South, rather than personal ambition. He highlighted the importance of the election for various community members, including graduates, traders, and farmers, who are striving for better opportunities and livelihoods.
Pax-Osifo, who was born and raised in Benin, pledged to provide a different style of representation that focuses on accessibility, accountability, and grassroots engagement. He criticized previous leadership for being disconnected from the people and expressed his commitment to being an accessible and honest senator. He identified insecurity and inadequate infrastructure as major challenges facing the Edo South Senatorial District, affecting farmers’ ability to access their farms and impacting food production.
He expressed appreciation to the PDP for the opportunity to represent the party and expressed confidence in achieving victory. The Edo South Senatorial Chairman of the PDP, Mr Osaron Oseleomo, also spoke, dismissing suggestions of the party’s diminished political relevance due to internal challenges. Oseleomo pointed to the strong turnout of party supporters at a short-notice airport reception as evidence of the PDP’s continued popularity in Edo State. He emphasized the party’s strength and ability to mobilize supporters for electoral success.
