Abuja: Alhaji Usman Adamu, the Bauchi State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, has declared that political history is on his side to secure victory in the 2027 election. Adamu made these remarks during an interview with newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, at a grand reception dinner held in honor of the PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed. He emphasized that no sitting governor in Bauchi State has ever successfully installed a successor.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Adamu expressed confidence in his chances against a strong opponent from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), backed by incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed. He noted that the electorate in Bauchi are politically aware and have historically resisted imposed candidates. “Well, the people of Bauchi are always wise. In fact, from the history of the state, there has never been a governor that was able to install a successor. So the chances are clear, and the coast is clear for the opposition to win,” he stated.
The governorship candidate highlighted that the dynamics of the 2027 election would be distinctly different from past elections, transitioning from a traditional two-party contest to a multi-party race. He pointed out that having seven or eight political parties actively contesting the governorship seat provides a strategic advantage for his candidature.
Adamu also discussed the internal stability of the PDP, which he believes makes it the most viable platform for voters. He noted that competitors from other political parties were currently grappling with post-primary frictions. “The advantage we have is that PDP is the only stable party in Nigeria. All other parties are enmeshed in deep political crises, especially serious primary election crises. After the primaries, there are lots of defections, and most people are coming back to us,” he said.
He called on Nigerian youths to support his ambition and PDP candidates in all elective positions in the 2027 general elections. Adamu stated that his primary goal, if elected, would be to restore youths’ confidence in governance by addressing unemployment issues. “The major target of my government will be job creation because unemployment is what is causing a lot of social crises, leaving the youths with nowhere to go. Once we drive job creation, I believe that will directly cater for the unrest and social crises that are currently affecting our economy,” Adamu said.
He also praised the emergence of Mohammed as the youngest national chairman in PDP’s history, viewing it as a significant encouragement to young Nigerians and a testament to the PDP’s commitment to providing genuine opportunities for youth leadership.
