Abuja: The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Alumni Association, Lagos State Branch, recently honored the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Works, Mrs. Bolanle Olukareh, acknowledging her appointment and contributions to public service. Olukareh, an architect and alumna of ABU, received an honorary award during a visit to her office in Alausa, Ikeja, where she was also invited to join the Lagos branch of the association.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr. Oladele Akinmegha, the chairman of the association, highlighted Olukareh’s appointment as one of seven permanent secretaries by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. He emphasized the university’s legacy of producing leaders across various sectors. The visit aimed to celebrate distinguished alumni, reinforce connections with graduates, and encourage contributions to the growth and development of ABU.
Akinmegha expressed that ABU has consistently nurtured leaders in public service and other professions, emphasizing inclusivity irrespective of gender. He noted that Olukareh’s career progression should serve as an inspiration for students and young graduates, particularly women, to strive for leadership roles with hard work and dedication.
In her response, Olukareh credited her education at Ahmadu Bello University for instilling the discipline and resilience needed to excel in her field. She reflected on the rigorous demands of her studies in architecture which prepared her for overcoming professional challenges. Olukareh advised young graduates to remain focused and committed to excellence, expressing gratitude for the recognition and pledging support for the association’s activities.
Olukareh was appointed on April 24 as one of the seven new permanent secretaries by Governor Sanwo-Olu, aimed at strengthening the Lagos State Public Service.
