Abuja: An Abuja-based businessman, Mr. Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, has officially declared his intention to contest the Lagos State governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC). Jim-Kamal made his declaration on Saturday before loyalists and leaders of Dynamic Group, a political movement, expressing that it was the turn of indigenes to take over the leadership of the state.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Jim-Kamal stated his commitment to serve the state diligently and elevate it to greater heights. Emphasizing the marginalization of the Aworis, the core owners of Lagos State, he announced his readiness to reclaim their rights. He pointed out that the Aworis control 16 out of the 20 local government areas in the state and expressed determination to respect all views as strategies are mapped out for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Jim-Kamal, born in Isheri Oke, now known as Ikosi-Isheri, responded to calls from the original owners of the state, citing his longstanding political involvement since 1988. He recalled his experiences as a young chairmanship candidate and a governorship aspirant, where he was persuaded to step down by notable leaders. Dismissing reports of an APC consensus to field Deputy Gov. Obafemi Hamzat as the governorship candidate, he confirmed the party’s decision to hold direct primaries.
During the declaration, Jim-Kamal outlined his five-point agenda which includes automated free education, healthcare services, massive road infrastructure, human capital development, and improved security. He emphasized a focus on alleviating family problems and reducing unemployment among youths in Lagos State by 2027. Highlighting his competence in road infrastructure, he revealed plans to secure substantial investment for the state’s development and the commencement of local rice cultivation.
Jim-Kamal urged his supporters to mobilize party members ahead of the primaries while cautioning against violence. He applauded President Bola Tinubu’s reforms and expressed confidence in the President’s re-election in 2027, attributing potential achievements to his leadership.
Alhaji Alani Olonade, APC Chairman, Ward A, Ikosi-Isheri, offered prayers for Jim-Kamal, while Mr. Aruna Yusuf, a founding member of the Dynamic Group, endorsed him as a capable leader with the vision to fulfill the aspirations of the state’s founding fathers.
