Abuja:Key stakeholders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have united to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. This alliance was announced by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Rainbow Coalition in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the coalition includes serving and former senators, party chairmen, National Assembly candidates, and grassroots leaders from both the PDP and APC across the six FCT area councils. The leaders have agreed that Tinubu will be their sole presidential candidate for the forthcoming election.
Wike, who has taken on the role of coordinator and field commander for Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the FCT and Rivers, emphasized the importance of prioritizing national goals over party divisions. He urged members from both parties to work together for the election’s purpose, highlighting the 2024 Edo State governorship election as evidence of effective cross-party collaboration.
The coalition’s strategy is focused on ensuring Tinubu’s victory, while allowing parties to manage other local contests independently. Wike stressed that the campaign’s foundation is the tangible achievements of the Tinubu administration, such as infrastructure improvements and institutional reforms in the FCT.
Wike pointed to infrastructure projects like road construction, school rehabilitations, police station upgrades, and public facility enhancements as evidence of the administration’s success. Institutional reforms include the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and the creation of Secretariats for Women Affairs and Youth Development, which have facilitated career progression for civil servants and increased governance participation.
On economic and security reforms, Wike mentioned Tinubu’s efforts in economic restructuring and support for state police establishment to enhance national security. This bi-partisan coalition aims to consolidate political support for Tinubu’s continued leadership.
APC State Chairman in FCT, Mr. Ishaku Yamawo, expressed full support for Wike, praising his efforts in unifying political opponents for strategic success. PDP’s Usman Yahaya also affirmed the party’s complete backing of Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
