Lagos:The Egg Sellers and Distributors Association of Nigeria (ESDAN) has introduced the EggHome App, aiming to improve the affordability, accessibility, and freshness of eggs.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mrs. Olaide Graham, the ESDAN National President, shared details about the initiative during an interview. The app’s launch coincides with the 30th anniversary of World Egg Day, celebrated annually on the second Friday in October to raise awareness of eggs’ nutritional value. This year’s theme, ‘Protein That Powers and Protects,’ highlights the importance of eggs as a nutritious protein source.
The EggHome App is designed to revolutionize egg purchases by connecting Nigerians with suppliers through a convenient digital platform. This initiative seeks to make fresh eggs more affordable and accessible while providing a direct link between consumers and egg suppliers.
Mrs. Graham elaborated that the app also aims to address persistent industry challenges such as unfair pricing practices, exploitation within the distribution chain, and recurring egg gluts. By leveraging technology, the app hopes to tackle these issues, providing a more transparent and efficient connection between suppliers and buyers.
The app’s development is particularly crucial for addressing inefficiencies in marketing, distribution, and consumer access, which contribute to challenges in the poultry industry. By reducing bottlenecks and improving market access, the platform is expected to create better opportunities for egg sellers and producers.
Furthermore, the app is anticipated to improve access to buyers, minimize avoidable losses, and enable consumers to obtain fresh eggs at more affordable prices. ESDAN hopes the app will create a more balanced market by enhancing producers’ access to customers and allowing distributors to operate more efficiently.
As part of the World Egg Day celebrations, ESDAN engaged students in activities promoting the nutritional benefits of eggs, emphasizing their role in supporting growth, development, and healthy living. This engagement reinforced the need for sustained nutrition awareness and encouraged greater youth involvement in the egg industry.
Additionally, ESDAN extended outreach to widows, elderly persons, and less-privileged community members, reflecting its commitment to improving lives and strengthening communities. This humanitarian effort underscores the association’s belief in measuring success by its societal contributions, not just business achievements.
