The National Policy Advocacy Centre (NPAC) of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has entered into a Partnership with the European Union Delegation to conduct a comprehensive desk study and workshop on green technology and digital innovation.
In a statement, the ACCI disclosed that the initiative aims to drive economic growth, create jobs, promote environmental sustainability.
It noted that the partnership would share research findings with stakeholders, experts, and policymakers to enhance awareness and understanding of the potential of green technologies and digital innovations in Nigeria.
The President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr Emeka Obegolu praised the initiative and the partnership secured by the Chamber’s Policy Centre.
He emphasised that the Centre is a think tank established to engage effectively with government agencies, private sectors, and international bodies to develop policies that are beneficial for the business community.
According to the statement,
the objectives of the study include;
Assessing the Current Landscape, Evaluating the adoption rates, challenges, and opportunities of green technologies and digital innovations across various sectors in Nigeria, including agriculture, energy, manufacturing, transportation, and waste management.
‘Identifying Promising Technologies: Highlighting green technologies and digital solutions with the potential to drive economic growth, create employment opportunities, and enhance environmental sustainability in Nigeria.’
‘Analysing Policy and Regulatory Frameworks: Reviewing the policies and regulations governing the adoption and implementation of green technologies and digital innovations, focusing on identifying barriers and recommending policies to promote widespread adoption and scalability.
‘Examining Socio-Economic and Environmental Impacts: Investigating the impacts of green technologies and digital innovations on poverty reduction, social inclusion, climate resilience, and resource efficiency in Nigeria,’
it stated.
The statement revealed that the collaboration initiated through a proposal by NPAC, underscores ACCI’s commitment to identifying alternative energy sources that are both cost-effective and sustainable for the business community.
The Executive Director of ACCI-NPAC, Mr. Chidiebere Onwumere, who is leading the project, stated that the proposed research aims to generate evidence-based insights and policy recommendations to inform decision-making and policy formulation at the national, regional, and local levels.
‘This research will help raise awareness and build capacity among stakeholders on the potential of green technologies and digital innovations to drive sustainable development and economic transformation in Nigeria.
‘Additionally, it will foster partnerships and collaborations among government agencies, private sector entities, academia, and civil society organisations to accelerate the adoption and implementation of these technologies,’ Mr Onwumere said.
He added, ‘we believe that this pa
rtnership with the European Union allows us to leverage their expertise, resources, and networks to maximise the impact and reach of our research.’
Mr. Onwumere revealed that the desk study is scheduled for September 2024, aiming to explore the potential of green technologies and digital innovations to drive economic growth, job creation, and environmental sustainability in Nigeria.
The workshop, planned for November 2024, will focus on sharing research findings with stakeholders, experts, and policymakers to increase awareness and understanding of the potential benefits of green technologies and digital innovations.
