Abuja: TracTrac Mechanisation Service Ltd (TracTrac MSL), a Nigerian-led agricultural technology company, has launched an initiative called Young People in Mechanisation (YPiM) to tackle the shortage of technical skills in the country. Godson Ohuruogu, CEO of TracTrac MSL, made the announcement at a news conference.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the YPiM initiative aims to raise a new generation of leaders in mechanisation by equipping young Nigerians aged 18 to 35 with practical skills, mentorship, and access to opportunities in mechanisation, entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership, and advocacy. The company aims to help young individuals build sustainable livelihoods while contributing to agricultural transformation and food security in Nigeria.
The CEO highlighted that TracTrac MSL has facilitated the deployment of over 800 tractors across multiple states, impacting more than 500,000 farmers and supporting a network of over 6,000 Mechanisation Service Providers (MSPs) since its inception. Ohuruogu emphasized the company’s role in building an extensive mechanisation network that redefines access to mechanised farming for smallholder farmers across the country.
TracTrac’s flagship digital platform, TracTrac Plus, connects farmers directly with MSPs in real-time, supporting asset tracking, farm mapping, and demand aggregation. The platform has installed over 5,000 apps and facilitated over 2,000 mechanisation service engagements, driven by TracTrac’s core pillars of Accessibility, Availability, Affordability, and Capacity.
Ohuruogu also discussed the company’s partnership with the government in developing Nigeria’s draft National Agricultural Mechanisation Policy (NAMP). This policy outlines a five-year course for the sector focusing on sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation. It addresses priorities such as sustainable land development, promotion of appropriate technologies, private-sector investment, robust financing mechanisms, and human capital development, while also embracing climate-smart and digital agriculture.
TracTrac MSL is a transformative force in Nigerian agriculture, leveraging technology and innovative financing solutions to empower smallholder farmers with affordable and reliable mechanisation services. Through an integrated platform, TracTrac enables farmers and cooperatives to lease or own tractors, purchase genuine tractor implements, and access technologies that optimise machinery use and management.
