Uyo: Mr Moses Essien, the member representing Ibiono Ibom in the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, has donated work tools, business starter packs, and cash to empower members of his constituency. Speaking at the empowerment programme at Ikpa Pavillion, Essien emphasized that the initiative aimed to enhance the socio-economic wellbeing of the people.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the lawmaker presented three vehicles, 22 motorcycles, six welding machines, and 20 sewing machines to members of the constituency. He also distributed freezers, generating sets, vulcanizing machines, aluminum cutting machines, hair dressing machines, and cash to the constituents. Essien expressed his commitment to ensuring effective representation of his constituency at the state legislature.
“Part of the essence of this exercise is to appraise my civic covenant with my people, show how accountable I am, and to solemnly discharge my mandate as a representative,” he said. As a member of the All Progressives Congress, Essien noted that Gov. Umo Eno and President Bola Tinubu had shown visible commitment to service delivery. “What we are doing today is to key into the policies and programmes of the party as captured in the Renewed Hope Agenda. I appeal to my constituents to support the policies and programmes of both tiers of government; they really mean well for us,” he added.
The lawmaker expressed gratitude to the Ibiono Ibom people for their mandate and sustained goodwill, which had inspired him for greater service delivery. In his speech, Eno described Essien as a vibrant, reliable, and focused legislator who had effectively represented his people. Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Legislative Matters, Mr Emmanuel Ekpenyong, Eno acknowledged Essien’s significant contributions to the growth of Akwa Ibom.
“I am convinced that the people of this constituency made a good choice in the election of this lawmaker,” Eno stated, urging beneficiaries to utilize the work tools and starter packs to establish themselves and become self-reliant. The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mr Udeme Otong, praised Essien for his substantial contributions to the legislative process at the assembly. “He is a dependable member whose wealth of experience and knowledge have added value to the legislative business of the assembly,” Otong remarked.
Sen. Bassey Akpan, the Chairman of the event, highlighted that the primary responsibilities of a legislator were to make laws and attract economic incentives to the people.
