Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has denied reports suggesting that the state plans to borrow N247 billion. Speaking in response to questions during a press briefing held at the Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, Governor Soludo dismissed the claims as fake news, clarifying that his administration is not currently seeking to borrow funds.
During his address on Anambra’s 33rd anniversary celebration, Governor Soludo affirmed that while borrowing is not inherently reprehensible, his government maintains strict and prudent criteria for debt acquisition. He emphasised that his administration does not intend to borrow at this time.
Governor Soludo recalled that although the state House of Assembly had authorized his administration to borrow N100 billion since 2022, not a single kobo has been borrowed thus far.
He underscored that his government is committed to conceptualising and implementing projects with tangible returns on investment, ensuring they are capable of generating revenue to repay any potential
borrowing. Notably, he reemphasized that his government will not borrow for purposes of consumption.
