Anambra: An Anambra Industrialist, Chief Onyeka Ifekandu, has expressed his commitment to promoting Igbo core values, particularly the apprenticeship system, as a means to foster economic independence among young people. Ifekandu, who serves as the CEO of Mac-Akudiufu Nig. Ltd., a tailoring accessories business established on Lagos Island since 1994, shared with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that his company has enabled no fewer than 100 youths to achieve financial freedom.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ifekandu attributes his dedication to the legacy of apprenticeship inherited from his forefathers, which he is now extending to today’s youth. His efforts aim to support both formal and informal learners in finding success. Additionally, his humanitarian endeavors include the Ezendigbo Welfare Foundation, founded in 2021, aimed at supporting the less privileged.
Ifekandu mentioned that the recognition he has received motivates him to continue serving the Igbo community. He emphasized the importance of preserving, projecting, and dignifying Igbo culture with unity and integrity. He stated, “Our forefathers left the legacy of apprenticeship for economic growth of the people of the zone, of which I benefited from.”
He further explained his decision to extend similar opportunities to today’s youth, allowing both informal and formal learners to establish themselves socially and economically. The recognition and accolades he has garnered have inspired him to continue his service to the Igbo people. He remarked, “I feel I have preserved, projected, and dignified Igbo culture both at home and in the diaspora with unity, integrity, and reverence as my watchword.”
