The Chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, has assured the public that no political party or candidate will be favoured in the upcoming local government election scheduled for September 28.
During the Commission’s tour of various Local Government Areas, Osakwe emphasised the importance of not falling for cheap propaganda and urged Anambra people to make informed decisions when casting their votes.
The tour, which included visits to Awka North and South, Dunukofia, Anaocha, and Njikoka, saw the participation of stakeholders from different sectors such as political parties, candidates, religious leaders, town unions, and traditional institutions.
Significant role
Osakwe stated that the purpose of the tour was to engage with community and opinion leaders, educate them about the Commission’s plans for a free, fair, and credible election, and ensure that the electorate plays a significant role in the electoral process.
She debunked rumours of ANS
IEC endorsing candidates or political parties, calling it cheap propaganda aimed at deterring voters from demanding quality representation. Osakwe reiterated her commitment to delivering the freest, fairest, and most credible local government elections in the country under her leadership.
Stakeholders commended ANSIEC for providing updates and sought clarifications during the tour. President General of Awba-Ofemili, Mr. Fidelis Chukwunedu, expressed gratitude to the Commission for including communities in the process and pledged to educate voters in their respective areas for full participation in the election.
